Extraordinary Students

Name: Teresa Hicks Fulwiler
Graduation Year: 2013
School: East Tennessee State University
I am currently a part time, non-traditional, Environmental Health student at East
Tennessee State University. I have a very busy schedule attending college and working
full-time while also being a wife and mother. I thoroughly enjoy college where I am
learning new and exciting things.
1. Why did you choose an environmental health career?
I am a Safety Coordinator
in a major chemical company where safety and the environment are our number
one priorities. I love my job and wanted to be able to grow and learn in the field of
Environmental Health with an emphasis in Occupational Safety. I care about the safety
of others, the community we live in and therefore I have a deep desire to learn and grow.
2. What do you like most about the EH program you are in?
My school offers several
night and on-line classes which allows working adults to attend college. We have
small classes enabling the students and professors the opportunity to get to know one
another and build lasting friendships. Also, our professors have the same interest as their
students; they care about the safety of others, our community and the environment, which
make our classes very enjoyable.
3. What do you see yourself doing after graduation?
I plan to continue working at my
current place of employment in the safety field. Earning my B.S. degree enables me to
seek higher level positions which will allow me to grow, learn and contribute in the field
I most enjoy.
4. What would you like to say to potential students to recruit them into an environmental health degree program?
There are so many different areas they can
work in with an Environmental Health degree i.e., Safety Specialist, Environmental
Affairs, Solid Waste Management, Waste Water Treatment, Industrial Hygiene and
much more. Environmental Health is a great career choice with so many wonderful
opportunities.
