Extraordinary Students

Name: Patrice Bland
Graduation Year: 2012
School: Mississippi Valley State University

I am undergraduate senior from Grenada, Mississippi. My major is Environmental Health with minor in Biology.

1. Why did you choose an environmental health career?

Because I am a strong believer in the fact that if you promote health awareness by educating individuals on how to maintain a healthy environment, public health issues would decline greatly.

2. What do you like most about the EH program you are in?

I like the different opportunities that I have been able to participate in because of my major. I also enjoy gaining the knowledge from the courses offered and learning how to incorporate that knowledge into situations that could benefit me in my future career.

3. What do you see yourself doing after graduation?

I look forward to pursing a Masters in Public Health. I am undecided on working for a year before applying to school.

4. What would you like to say to potential students to recruit them into an environmental health degree program?

I would like to say to potential students that they should come into the program with a desire to learn about their surroundings and to know that something as simple as soil maintenance could have an enormous effect on their environment and their health. Overall they should understand what Environmental Health is. And as I have been told, the opportunities in the workforce are endless.
